In times of crisis, we need the arts.
Covid-19 comes on like a slow-motion tsunami, wreaking havoc on our daily lives, our dreams and our essential ways of being social together. It is heartening to see the dance field coming together in this moment, as the crisis reshapes our daily lives in heretofore unfathomable ways, and to experience the gestures of community and compassion that have arisen almost as quickly as the crisis itself.
Stephen Petronio Company is committed to supporting our dancers. The Company must be resilient to make it through this crisis and we plan to thrive and flourish again once we all reach the other side.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT to make it through, and hope you will consider a 100% tax-deductible donation towards General Operating Support, to ensure that we can pay our dancers when unemployment benefits run out. Artists in motion will be out of work for much longer once the world begins to return to normalcy. We are so grateful for donors who have pledged already and hope that we can count on you to join them in supporting SPC. We are 40% towards our goal already!
I am so proud that Stephen Petronio Company is one of the few dance companies to pay our dancers a regular salary and we want to honor these commitments. Already, so many performances and classes have been cancelled this spring, and it seems unlikely that a regular performance schedule will resume for the summer and fall. This means SPC won’t have a regular income from tickets and commissioning fees, and our dancers won’t have work through much, if not all, of the year.
THE COST OF QUARANTINE We are extremely grateful for how the funding community is mobilizing to help NYC nonprofits and artists. But while incredibly generous, it won’t be enough: right now, I need your help to provide our team the most basic support to survive this so that my beloved dancers can survive through this unthinkable moment. We are projecting a total loss of revenue of $180,000 in fiscal year 2020 because of performance cancellations and forgoing our Spring Gala.
ADAPTING TO THE TIMES At this point when so much seems unknown, we need your assistance. As the days go by, fundraising goals morph into disaster relief. Worries about our means of survival collide with worries about our personal and collective health. Our dancers are the most vulnerable, isolated and without protection, while our work must be cared for in this critically dangerous moment. SPC will work to find ways to continue to bring you the highest level of dancing in our power, through online performances, classes, and digital media sharing.
HELP US SUPPORT OUR DANCERS We are reaching out to our individual donors to raise funds to support our dancers. Please consider supporting the dancers of Stephen Petronio Company during this unprecedented disaster.
Wherever you are I hope you can take a minute to breath and remember the power of our dance. All of us at SPC wish you and your loved one’s health, wellness, and some peace of mind at this unprecedented moment in history.
Thank you for your friendship and support.
Join us in having a direct impact on this art form and let us inspire you with motion!
